We close today for the half term holidays and return on Monday 20th April. We wish all our children, parents and carers, staff, governors and wider community a restful half term.

Here at Newport we take every opportunity to find ways of embedding maths into our curriculum subjects! Year 5 have been very busy this half term with their computing work, looking at the wonderful world of spreadsheets, using them to work out mathematical calculations to convert measurements from one unit to another. Pupils have then gone on to learn how to create line graphs and then progressed to creating spreadsheets to model changes in weather formations! ... See MoreSee Less

On Tuesday, pupils from Year 5 travelled all the way up to Newcastle to take part in a literary event at the magnificent Seven Stories museum! Only five schools from the entire Tees Valley area were selected to take part in a fabulous exploration of how we could tell stories collaboratively using our oracy skills. Over several days since September, the whole of Year 5 have been working with writers from Seven Stories to create their own ideas for a storybook. Telling stories can be a complicated business, but our superstar pupils worked incredibly hard and came up with a terrific tale about what happened at a Word Factory when all the words got jumbled up!

Newport pupils were taken around the museum and given a chance to explore all the various different exhibits. As a special treat, the curators showed us some of the original illustrations which had been drawn for “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”! As you can see from, the photos here, our pupils had a fantastic time and came away brimming with new ideas for creating their own stories.
Newport received a lovely message from the museum commending our pupils on their achievements:

"On behalf of the creative and learning teams here at Seven Stories I wanted to say a huge thank you to all children for your superb performances yesterday. You truly were wonderful ambassadors for your schools, but also Middlesbrough and Cleveland. And to all the children who couldn't come yesterday your classmates did you, and all of your hard work and amazing creativity proud!"

Seven Stories is open most days over the Easter holidays. Why not take your child to this wonderful free museum to see the various exhibits on display?
